Determination of Izod impact strength according to DIN EN ISO 180

Method for determining the Izod impact strength of plastics. The test method allows to determine the behaviour of brittleness or toughness. Suitable for the following material groups:

– stiff thermoplastic injection moulding and extrusion moulding compounds
– stiff thermoset plastic materials
– filled and reinforced composites
– coatings
– fibre-reinforced thermoset and thermoplastic composites with unidirectional or non-unidirectional reinforcement.
The method is adapted to the use of test specimens made from moulding compounds in the selected dimensions, worked out from the central part of the standardised multi-purpose test specimen (see ISO 3167) or taken from mouldings and semi-finished products, such as injection mouldings, laminates, extruded or cast sheets.
