Density of solids according to DIN EN ISO 1183-1

Category Tag

Determination of the density of plastics using the immersion method (buoyancy method). Method is for semi-finished products and moulded parts made of plastics. The measurement is carried out according to the Archimedean principle: a sample previously weighed with an analytical balance is completely immersed in a liquid (e.g. water with wetting agent) and weighed in the process. The pycnometer used in this process allows an exact determination of the displaced volume of liquid. The bulk density of the sample is calculated from the sample masses (in air or immersed) and the displaced volume.
The maximum (partial) sample size is 20 mm x 20 mm x 35 mm.
The application of the test method is limited to non-foamed plastics.
